Stage Buckow - Küstrin
In the Oderbruch, the unifying idea of the Europaradweg can be experienced in particular.
After the draining of the Oderbruch by the Prussian King Frederick II, in the middle of the 18th century, people settled here who were not well liked to their homeland. In Neuhardenberg, the castle and park are waiting to be explored on foot - a very special place. Along the Oder River, we head towards Küstrin. Here ends the German section of the Europaradweg R1. When crossing the Oder, it becomes clear what a Europe without borders is for an achievement.

Tour
From the picturesque spa town of Buckow with its Schermützelsee lake, the R1 European Cycle Route continues for a while through Brandenburg's oldest nature park, Märkische Schweiz. Via Münchehofe, you reach Trebnitz, whose former estate now houses an educational center with a café and village store. Between Wulkow and Platkow, a detour to Neuhardenberg is worthwhile. The Prussian model village awaits today with a castle worth seeing, the park and the Schinkel church.
In Letschin, the Oderbruch is then finally reached. This area is the only province that the Old Fritz, as he himself said, won for Prussia without war. It was settled after draining by planned colonization. The river and the quarry can be experienced particularly well on the dike of the Oder. Finally, the German section of the R1 European Cycle Route ends at the Küstrin Bridge without border controls. Further east, many kilometers of exciting European history, landscape and culture await you.
