UNESCO Castle Church of All Saints

Martin Luther's posting of his theses on the door of Wittenberg Castle Church brought the city worldwide fame.

Martin Luther's posting of his theses on the door of Wittenberg Castle Church on October 31, 1517 brought Wittenberg worldwide fame. With his theses, the reformer spoke out against the misuse of the Gospel and in particular against the commercial trade in indulgences. He changed the world, ushered in the Reformation and made history. The castle church was built in 1506 on the foundations of the original castle of the Elector of Saxony. "A strong fortress is our God", this line from Martin Luther's famous psalm and hymn is emblazoned in large letters on the church tower of this impressive church.

Today, Luther's grave and the final resting place of the reformer Philipp Melanchthon can be visited inside the church.
