Melanchthonhaus

UNESCO Luther Memorials Wittenberg

Almost 500 years ago, the whole world was looking at the small town of Wittenberg on the Elbe River when Martin Luther launched the Protestant Reformation by posting his theses at the castle church.

But it was not only thanks to Luther that the newly founded denomination spread so quickly. He was assisted by his faithful companions Philipp Melanchthon and Lucas Cranach the Elder, whose traces have been preserved throughout the city.

The original sites and workplaces of the reformers, including the four sights of Luther House, City Church, Castle Church and Melanchthon House, which have been UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 1996, still bear impressive witness to this important era.
