Small Castle and Baroque Gardens Blankenburg (Harz)

Blankenburg's palace gardens are among the "Historic Gardens and Parks in Saxony-Anhalt," which became known as part of the state's "Garden Dreams" tourism initiative.

Here you can experience over 400 years of European garden art! First mentioned in a document in 1123, the 100-hectare ensemble is one of the largest and oldest in Saxony-Anhalt. The baroque terrace garden above the small castle dates back to the 18th century. Here, as well as in the mountain garden with tea house, in the modernly designed pheasant garden or in the landscaped castle park, it is wonderful to stroll. The former Cistercian monastery Michaelstein, which is known for its closed medieval complex, is also located in Blankenburg. The monastery is located on the Romanesque Road, has been held in trust by the Saxony-Anhalt Cultural Foundation since 2005 and is enlivened with numerous cultural projects.

The Small Castle was built in 1725 as a princely garden house. Within its venerable walls, the building now houses the tourist information office, the project office of the Harzer Wandernadel, exhibition rooms and a stylish wedding hall.
